Formulary API

Formulary API

This API enables applications to use a FHIR interface to retrieve a health insurer’s drug formulary information for patients, consumers, and prescribers. Built to support interoperability and transparency, the API provides standardized access to formulary and coverage data that can help streamline prescribing workflows, improve medication visibility, and support informed decision making at the point of care.

Opala’s PDex Formulary API is aligned to industry interoperability standards and is designed for easy integration into healthcare applications and member experiences. Developers can use the API to search and retrieve formulary information using a variety of supported criteria, enabling flexible access to health plan drug coverage data.

The current iteration of Opala’s PDex Formulary API is an unauthenticated API, meaning it exchanges formulary data only and does not include any PHI or PII. This approach enables secure and efficient access to publicly available formulary information while simplifying implementation and integration efforts for developers.
